7's Day 2012 - Moccoman's RE-RE-Fresh!

Here is a feature I hould have loaded a year ago. But the 7's day coverage has re-ignited my interest. So here is a special car from the 2012 Mazda Tuning Festival.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - Auto Craft

Auto craft satin wrapped RX8 is a textural monster.

The overall finish on this satin aluminium fabric finish is quite special and it certainly captures your attention with the deep TE37 Tokyo time attack wheels.

However up close its just another failed wrap. Defects everywhere, joins, marks and the effects of an incredibly curvaceous body took it's effect on the application. Large flat areas are free of marks, but the curved sections requiring stretching and heat treatment are less than impressive.

inside there's a fake carbon-look seat cover that would have you sliding all over, rather than gripping your frame. Up top there's a carbon look roof also.

Stitched leather on the re-trimmed steering wheel and the rest is standard fare.

Out back, the quad exhausts and rear end treatment of the widebody add on fenders is pretty cool.

but it is totally ruined by the poorly wrapped body. This corner was either the first or rushed last piece. Bubbles and marks.

Joins a plenty. For drift this would be totally acceptable as the body gets destroyed all to often, but for a street cruiser, I don't think many would accept this level of finish.

Stand back though and it all goes from your mind. Screaming down the street it would be glistening fury.

Worthy of Tokyo Auto Salon. Your choice.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - Orange Toda

However you look at the AC 987 front end, it's a love hate relationship. These cross-breed cars always create controversy.

The 993 Porsche lighting integrated in '98 was refreshed a while later with this wide-body version that had better proportions and an integrated splitter. When combined with the wider version of the side step AD and rear section of the AD kit, the result could accommodate the larger rim size seen here. 18x9.5 all round with a decent offset for curved face TE37.

The owner chose to display the carbon on the bonnet by leaving the orange highlight the heat exhaust routing. Personally I don't like this effect, but again, these things are very personal. Just like the old school lights from RE-Amemiya. Practicalities aside, they give a real JDM effect.

I think the Porsche mix works well on this one as I posted from 7's Day. The side graphics highlight the owners association with Super Autobacs Toda and RE-Amemiya. I'm not sure if this was a last minute addition because Super Autobacs Omiya have another car in the build.

Porsche or FD. I think this one cost about the same as an entry level Porsche.

There's always a reason why I leave this rear shots to last. The poo shooter toilet shaped central outlet on the rear of this car is even worse when it's not used for the exhaust port. Looks like the rear is gasping for breath in shock! Like it looked in a mirror.

And those lights... I'll stop there. Focus on the wing. The endless wing is a nice piece as featured on only a few RE-Amemiya Super Greddy cars.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 - Magic Mad Mike

Total Car Produce Magic have joined the armed forces of Mad Mike's Metal Mulisha to Attack D1 in 2012.

The car itself is the same 4 rotor that has been in the build for a while at TCP Magic. I shot the car at 7's day          in July when it was wearing the more visible white red line livery. Check here.

It sounds awesome! I've been watching the blog from magic and there were always vague references to an un-named NZ driver this year. I mean there aren't many that have worked with magic before.

So it was obviously going to be Mike that got a run in the car. The engine spec is very similar to the NZ builds using many of the same components anyway.

Inside is a little more original fd-like than Mikes Mad Bull, but it's still stripped and caged in full D1 style.
Yoshioka was penciled in to drive this car two years ago. The "toshiking" steering wheel is refelection on that decision that never eventuated.

Anyway, the car was at the Rays stand. Magic have long had an association with Rays and Gram lights were fitted to this car for a long time. 4 new wheels have debuted on it.

The latest Gram Lights 57 EXTREME are pretty fitting for this site and the D1 FD.

They are a very cool matte graphite and angular pattern of these SP version with machined spokes matches the slashes in the livery well. and add dimension to the car.

the overall effect is very marine GRUNT like with a bit of military stealth.

Get your helmet on!

There were a few camouflaged people in the arena and they blended in nicely.

This photographer is hardly noticeable. In any case the car is amazing! I can't wait for Mike to come over and thrash this thing.

This has always been my favorite angle of the G-face kit. The strakes behind the front wheels and those fenders are cool!

I'd love to see this car with popup light covers doing a sleepy eye effect replacing these crap looking c-west lights.

Their bulbous nature and poor fitment do not match this beast. Small details, but just because something is carbon, doesn't mean it has good styling.

I'm sure you can sell them on Yahoo auction.

A cutout in the indicator combination lamp is for air ducting. No indicators I guess.

The rear of the car features the stock bumper, surrounded but RE-Amemiya diffuser, G-Face rear fenders with canard extensions, and the high mount, thick sectioned C-west GT wing.

I'm not sure if this is intentional, but the pixelated cammo is a bit cheap looking. Looks like it was made 20 years ago on an atari pc. ol' school is still cool though.

C-West end plates sit almost outside the body limit.

Just a few mm in it. Here you can see the line of the fenders. Quite curvaceous.

Pilot: Mad Mike.

Here's some detail of the 57 Extremes.

Awesome looking wheels and the new rays nuts and centre caps aint bad either.

Displayed in blue on the front end of the car, red nuts on the rear. Advan Neova all round in 19" but I doubt Mike will be using these regularly. some smaller sizes will adorn the car in D1.

It's a shame because these are fantastic. 19x10.5+12 on here but 18x9.5+12 are the biggest in 18" available.

The 4 rotor is in there and running strong. Fuel rail and injectors will see plenty of 100 octane splashed through them.

Ahh those fenders. If you aren't going to use a BN kit, then this is a pretty good alternative.

This might be the last good look at the car in one piece. D1 will force Mike to the top. Mistakes at this level are common though because everyone is giving 150% so this body will be damaged. Either by schredded tyres or the odd drift tap or wall clip.

Enjoy the Jap Bull.

You can see a video of the car (white) in action on TCP Magic's site.

Tsukuba Super Battle 2011 - Revolving

One Revolution of TC2000 elapsed in '54.713. Too Slow!

As the Revolution TA-2 left the pit for it's first attempt, almost every eye was on the car.

I quickly headed up on the pit tower to get a few shots as I knew 3 laps wasn't enough time to get over to the other side of the track. Such is time attack photography.

This shot shows a bit more exhaust gas out the back on a hot lap. The car sits very low for positive ground effect.

You can't even tell the car is under FULL braking here. Spring compression is negligible.

The line here is setting up for the hairpin. The damp track resulted in less than impressive times (as far as the team were concerned) but still rewarded them with fastest open class car of the day. With 2 seconds in the track can we expect a 52 second lap from the car?

Again under full braking, the car is flat as is cornering, the car hardly rolls on it's suspension.

On a hot lap here, using ALL the road and ALL the ripple strips for maximum return.

I'm really looking forward to more times as the season progresses.

I'll finish my TSB 2012 posts with this inspirational shot. Brake lights a glow as the car heads around the inner hairpin at Tsukuba Circuit 2000.

Catch me if you can!
