Two Thousand and Eleven

This is a very long post as it was a very long year. A lot has happened with a lot of learning and decisions along the way. Let's rock out 2011 with a look back through my lens as it happened.

TAS as always brings out the best of the best. The Hattari RX-8 from RE-Amemiya drew my attention for line and colour.

But the bling from Junction Produce had me thinking about other things.

R-Magic's ventures into the small screen include the use of this car.

And their ventures in D1 include the outright abuse of this car. I wondered weather it would last the year without a refresh. It did not. By half year, the body was refreshed and D1 was again up and running... kind of.

But this car really stole my imagination. A lot of vinyl and imagination can work.

One car that was a star at TAS was the Hurricane RX-7. But the year ended without the key aturn.

The main reason was of course this event. Ebisu circuit felt the brunt of it. It effected us all.

My shoestring budget for track adventures dried up and left me with the reality of a great car that I couldn't drive.

One last drive for contemplation was actually the first real drive I had around Hakone.

While the economy has slowed the markets for sports cars for most are a non-reality. I did manage to get the car on track during the year, but it was non the full attack I had initially planned.

One thing I started at the beginning of the year was a side project .RSG. design. While Ebisu based Powervehicles.com were recovering from the March events, I helped them out with some designs for their D1SL machines.

It seems like 7's day was a spark to get the ball rolling again. The turnout for events was huge!

Tuners keen to get back on track and boost the economy.

I started to take my photography a lot more seriously again also.

I think the results have paid off with my range improving through the year.

With 7's day attracting so many different people and styles it was ideal time to relaunch RE-Xtreme's new format.

Aoki-san from revolution watches on as lucky passengers were seated for some rides of their lives.

My favourite shot from 7's day. The R-Magic Gunship in action.

but the graphics and design also captured my attention.

While my hobbies have turned away from real racing for the time being, I found a niche in RC Drift which also allows me to prototype designs in a relatively inexpensive, fun way.

My father owning an RC shop has meant RC cars have always been around, but the reality in them these days is amazing.

The FD3s was sold and funds made available for new ventures in 2012.

Where and What are in my mind somewhere...maybe.

As the year drew to an end, I have a few cool experiences, Tsukuba super battle always showcases the best. I enjoyed the day immensely.

This shot really strikes a note with me. I think it sums up my attitude towards cars at the moment.

Although not an FD3s, this shot was by far my best picture from TSB.

However, this is an FD3s and it is my favorite at the moment. Minus the graphics, this is my pick a car that very well could be the perfect FD.

TSB is also a place I can meet and try to chat with some great people in my broken Japanese/English. If I'd kept my roadster, it probably would have had a 2.5L block and many more parts from Nopro by now.

But the sights, sounds and atmoshphere are what I like about track days in Japan. While some target for 52seconds these days, I'm just happy to look and admire.

I love this out of focus shot, It proves passion is still red.

Next year and the future are very uncertain. it seems in the last one or two years, things have changed rather quickly. Is this the way forward with re-chargeables from a nuclear source?

Or will this beast shake up the driving passion and re-ignite the industry.

for Mazda owners... I've given up trying to pump up a new rotary sports car. I thought the announcement would come on 07/07/07, but that was 5 years ago now. With 2012 being the 10th anniversary of the demise of the FD3s from production, new parts are still coming for the rotary fans, so I'll be at TAS 2012 to show the best from the event, but where we go from there, the future is uncertain.

December 2011 - Editorial

December means... Xmas Shopping? Holidays? Toys?

No... TIME ATTACK!

Time Attack Season is upon us. Expect to see some monsters out and about. Arios, CC, R-Magic, Pan Speed  and RE-Amemiya and others will be running again soon.

These machines will be in attendance at the REV Speed Tsukuba Super Battle on Friday 9th of Dec and I have my camera ready...

Recently, as you can see I'm still sorting through the masses of images from 7's day.
A bunch of new parts have been released for the FD3s, I update some of them on the Facebook page so check it out.

I'm also heading to the Tokyo Motor show next week. We shall see what new toys there are.

End of December Xmas will come. Here's a few for your list.

Ebbro RE-Amemiya Super GT 1/43 Scale Static die cast model.
Yokomo RE-Amemiya GT300 1/12th scale RC.
Tamiya RE-Amemiya Super GT 1/10th Scale RC
Yokomo RE-Amemiya D1 FD 1/10th Scale Drift RC

Or Maybe something real.

RE-Amemiya TS Concept TAS Car 1/1 Scale

Then it's TAS time early next year. I'm watching the cars from AB Flug, RE-Amemiya NA7 and the dress up machine and others are in their final stages of preparation.

On a liberating note for me...

RE-Xtreme Version III has left my posession so at the moment I am FD3sless. That hasn't really dampened my love for the beast though. Maybe one day....    Maybe... There might be another.

Speed Hunted

I was recently approached to put together a small article about obsession. What makes us fanatics live and breath car obsession?

The Speedhunters guest blog for a look inside RE-Xtreme is Here.

http://speedhunters.com/archive/2011/11/18/guest-blog-gt-gt-russell-gander-re-xtreme.aspx

My first article on Speedhunters was a long long time ago and I looked at the top5 most influential FD3s.

That article is Here... but maybe it needs expanding to a top ten. The top 5 still bear true but the scope was limited.  The Scoot 4 Rotor and Veilside Tokyo Drift car would make popular additions.

http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/01/05/user-ranking-gt-gt-re-xtreme-top-5.aspx

On a side note... RE-Xtreme Version III has recently left my possession, so I'm not as obsessed as people think... What's Version IV?

October 2011 - Editorial

October is here and it's time for a big German Beer. I've featured 45 spotlights from 7's Day and I still have many features to come. It's a slow process.

That also means I have been a bit busy on other things. Somehow my FD has been neglected with some minor car park body damage and that's not good, but it should be out of the body shop this week. While this blog has been a bit low there's still plenty of quick links on the face book page.

As you have seen.

The Pan Speed wide-body collaboration body-kit has finally been released by AB-Flug and their other ARDE project car is nearing completion.

The next D1 round will be interesting. Kenji Takayama should have the 810 hp 13b tuned and ready. That will be a tyre schredding machine. lets hope the federals can handle the abuse.

RE-Amemiya have been prepping the Hurricane for use and also building an NA 13b demo car with the Facer GT and their new rear bumper and lights. That will debut at Tokyo Auto Salon.

Knight Sports has a new set of subtle wide fenders and their FD engined RX-8 has been tearing it up in testing for Macau GP.

Rotary and Roadster in Sendai spells the start of the TA season. The Rev Speed event is getting closer in December and will soon be upon us also. I'll be there.

So with the time attack season approaching and cooler weather hitting Japan, you can expect some more events and other stuff.

September 2011 - Editorial

September has come and what have you rotary nutters been doing...?

I've has been super busy on other .RSG. design and other RC and scale projects. However, I did manage to get out and enjoy the FD a bit. Ebisu was fun, but alas now I'm back in Tokyo diving is a bit of a luxury. You really don't need a car to get around so much, especially when most workplaces reimburse train travel costs. You can really understand how some cars only travel 5000 klms a year in this country. I think mine is heading that way.

Plans for my car still include sale in the near future as the market dictates. However I'll be doing a little driving this month. Just to get out and about. Expect a few updates along the way (7's day shots are still in the hundreds) and a special item I've been holding back.

RE-Xtreme archive is back and although I've deleted a bunch of stuff there's still a lot of previous features to keep you interested.

Enjoy ku-gatsu.

Please excuse my very poor Japanese. Maybe I should do more.

August 2011 - Editorial

August... Already! What's in store?

Reader's will already notice that news posts have been less. I still have a lot to show from 7's day and that will continue through August, however news will be posted as links on Facebook. The RE-Xtreme Website / Blog will be a showcase for owners and experiences rather than re-tweets of news.

So, if you attend any events, shoot a cool Rx or want to present your own, let me know. I'll be more than happy to showcase it to the world.

Personally, I'll be heading to D1 next week for the Sunday Finals at Ebisu. I'm going along to support the efforts of those still in the area surrounding Fukushima and it's been a while since I've attended a D1 event. I'm in need a refreshing view of proceedings and a re-acquaintance with Ebisu.

Features from D1 will probably include the recently repaired and NOS punching R-Magic machine, as it's the only FD3s entry, but Imamura's FC and Suenaga's Rx-8 may get a close-up too.  I may try to set up some other cool machine features while I'm at the track. It's almost Matsuri time also. RE-Amemiya have some new parts so I'll try and check those out too.

Much to see, much to do.

Anything you need, drop me a line, the contacts page has the info.

RE-Xtreme Showcase

Welcome to RE-Xtreme showcase for the Mazda FD3s RX-7.

This blog is currently in motion and transition. The new imagery will be much better and while some things will change, the essence of RE-Xtreme will remain.

The focus is to provide an insight into the JDM world of the RX7. While focusing on the FD3s, the broader rotary community is more than welcome.

7/7/2011 was a good time to start, so expect all the coverage from 7's day and other events around Tokyo Japan.
